Sri Lankans awarded at the APHCA Hair Olympics 2016, Manila
Philippine Chapter of the Asia Pacific Hairdressers & Cosmetologists Association (APHCA) hosted the 20th APHCA “Hair Olympics 2016” at SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, Pasay City, Manila, Philippines, on 26th October 2016.
More than 1,000 participants from Asia Pacific Region and around 5,000 local hairdressers, trade visitors and Tec-Voc students joined this prestigious event.
Fourteen member Sri Lanka delegation headed by Mr.Suraj M. Gunasekara, President of the APHCA-Sri Lanka Chapter, Ms. Hasini H. Gunasekara, Director, International Academy of Beauticians (Jury of APHCA Hair Olympics 2016), Ms. R.A.R. Malkanthi, Beautician (competitor), Mr. D. Kithsiri Dissanayake, Beautician (competitor) and Ms. H.P, Waruni Indika, Beautician (competitor) and Ms. M.J. RuwaniPerera, Beautician (competitor), participated at the convention.
Mr. D. Kithsiri Dissanayake and Ms. H.P, Waruni Indika, famous beauticians from Sri Lanka, were awarded the Top 5 Bridal Dressing and Top 5 Evening Make-up Artist at the said competition.
The Asia Pacific Hairdressers and Cosmetologists Association (APHCA) was formed in 1997 by a group of international and local professionals in the beauty industry to organize international events and be able to share knowledge, creativity and ideas among its member countries.
APHCA holds an Annual International event dubbed as “HAIR OLYMPICS” which is usually held in different APHCA member countries. Since the establishment of APHCA in1997, member countries took turns to host the international event, as follows: 1999 and 2015, Taiwan; 2002 and 2014, Thailand; 2013, Malaysia; 2012, Indonesia; 2011, Macau; 2001 and 2010, South Korea; 1997 and 2009, Philippines; 2008, China; 2007, Japan; 2006, Mongolia; 2000 and 2005, Australia; 2004, Sri Lanka; 2003, Philippines; 1998, Hong Kong.
Sri Lanka is scheduled to host the APHCA Hair Olympics in 2018.
