“Sri Lanka seeking stronger ties with the Central Bank of the Philippines”

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the Philippines Shobini Gunasekera paid a courtesy call on Hon. Benjamin E. Diokno, Governor of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), on 30 January 2020.

The discussions focused on promoting stronger ties and bilateral cooperation between
the Philippines and Sri Lanka in response to the emerging interest of Sri Lankans to invest in major industries in the Philippines.

Ambassador also apprised the Governor that Sri Lanka is no longer the subject of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) monitoring process under its on-going global AML/CFT compliance process (Sri Lanka delisted from the FATF grey list in October 2019). The delisting should facilitate Sri Lankans living in the Philippines to meet the due diligence criteria in commercial banking.

Sri Lanka’s major exports to the Philippines in recent years have been currency notes,
bank notes and print currency amounting to $6M in 2019.
