Sri Lanka and the Philippines further enhance Business Relations


Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sri Lanka-Philippines Business Council of Sri Lanka and the Philippines-Sri Lanka Business Council of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) was signed today, 12th October 2016, during the opening ceremony of the 42nd Philippine Business Conference and Expo.


On behalf of the two Business Councils, Mr. Crisanto Frianeza, Secretary General of PCCI, and Mr. Nalin Perera, Board Secretary of the Philippines-Sri Lanka Business Council, signed the MoU. H.E. Vicente Vivencio T. Bandillo, Philippines Ambassador accredited to Sri Lanka from Bangladesh, H.E. Aruni Ranaraja, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Philippines, Mr. George Barcelon, President of PCCI, Dr. Francis Chua, Chairman Emeritus and Chairman of the International Trade Affairs Committee of the PCCI, and Mr. Sriyal Dissanayake, Philippine Honorary Consul to Sri Lanka, witnessed the signing ceremony.

The MoU aims to set-up a Joint Business Council (JBC) to foster friendship and understanding between the business communities of Sri Lanka and the Philippines and will promote cooperation in trade, investment, technology transfer, service and all industrial sectors between the two countries.

Philippine Business Conference & Expo is an annual conference organized by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) which is the largest business organization gathering in the Philippines. More than 1000 Philippine delegates from member-chambers of PCCI nationwide, business councils and industry associations attended the conference.

A sixteen member Sri Lanka business delegation comprising priority sectors of cooperation including tourism and hospitality, IT/BPO, construction, shipping, agriculture and education, had the opportunity to participate in the interactive business workshops and B2B meetings.

Vice President of the Philippines, Hon. Leni Robredo was the keynote speaker at the opening ceremonies today and His Excellency Rodrigo R. Duterte, President of the Philippines will speak before the business community at the closing ceremony on 13th October 2016.
