Sri Lanka Embassy in Manila celebrated the Vesak Day
The Sri Lanka Embassy in Manila in association with the Universal Wisdom Foundation celebrated the 2560th Vesak day on Saturday 21st May 2016 at the Universal Wisdom Park with the participation of the Venerable Maha Sangha from the Buddhist Temples in the Philippines, Multi Religious Leaders, Sri Lankan Community and other Buddhist Devotees in the Philippines.
The Celebrations commenced with a Buddhist sermon and chanting of pirith by the Venerable Maha Sangha followed by Traditional Buddha bathing.
The Embassy staff organized a Bodhi Pooja to respect sacred Bo sapling which is a sapling of the most sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura, which brought in to the Philippines in year 2011.
Ambassador Mrs. Aruni Ranaraja in her Vesak day message highlighted the value of Buddha Teaching in the present context which include the peaceful resolution of disputes and are synonymous with peace and diversity. Also she thanked Dr. Mariano Yupitun, Founder of the Universal Wisdom Foundation and Buddhist devotees in the Philippines for share the happiness of this important day in the Buddhist calendar in Manila.
The Embassy staff together with Sri Lankan community presented “Vesak bhakthi gee” followed by “Dansela” as an important feature of the Vesak day celebration in Sri Lanka.
The Embassy was colourfully decorated and illuminated with Vesak lanterns and Buddhist flags which brought the spirit of Vesak to the Philippines .
