Sri Lanka: A Stress Buster Tourism Destination Under the New Normal: – SL Tourism showcased at the NAITAS Travel Show 2020

Upon the invitation of the National Association of Independent Travel Agencies (NAITAS), Mrs. Thanuja Dissanayake, Minister and Head of Chancery, participated as a guest speaker at its virtual travel show on 28 December 2020.

The Travel Show 2020, attended by approximately one hundred (100) representatives from major stakeholders of the travel and tourism industry, was one of the NAITAS’s initiatives to encourage and stimulate the tourism industry towards recovery. The event was graced by Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat as the event’s chief guest as well as representatives from the government and private sector.

In her remarks, Mrs. Dissanayake encouraged the stakeholders to strive and contribute towards the collective goal of revitalizing the heavily-disrupted industry. She then discussed on Sri Lanka’s progress in addressing the pandemic as well as its move to gradually re-open the island nation for inbound tourism under a conceptualized scheme supported by health and safety measures. She invited the participants to consider Sri Lanka as their next destination of choice for travel and leisure.

NAITAS is one of the biggest and most reputed tourism associations with hundreds of members and partners throughout the Philippines. Early this year, the association has partnered with the Embassy in identifying collaborative activities for the promotion of Sri Lanka to Filipino travelers. Notably, the holding of its 2020 General Membership and Business Meeting (GMBM) was originally scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka but was postponed due to the pandemic. The Embassy and NAITAS are currently studying the possibility of holding the event in 2021.
