Showcasing SO Sri Lanka as the Resplendent Island

In cooperation with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB), the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Philippines recently held two major events showcasing “SO Sri Lanka: The Resplendent Island”. They hosted over 100 key travel agents and industry professionals for a high-level networking session in the morning; and then presented a cultural performance for senior Philippine government officials and influential decisionmakers in the evening.

The high-level networking session in the morning showcased the resplendent island as the ideal  tourism destination for Filipinos seeking more unique experiences. The session also provided a platform for prominent travel operators to meet their local counterparts and discuss business opportunities.

An authentic cultural performance

Meanwhile, the line-up of guests for the evening performance included Secretary of Foreign Affairs Teodoro Locsin and Madame Louie Locsin. The diplomatic community also attended this cultural event which included dances and drumming. 

In her opening remarks, Shobini Gunasekera, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Philippines, said: “For those who have not been to our country, we brought a little of it to you tonight. From our colorful dances, to our spice-infused delectable cuisine. And for those who have been, we refresh your memories on our resplendent island.” 

A showcasing of the Resplendent Island

These two events made key individuals in the Philippine travel industry more aware of the country’s heritage, culture and arts; and it successfully encouraged more Filipinos to consider including Sri Lanka in their line-up of travel offerings for 2020.
