Pursuing Prospects for FDIs to Sri Lanka from the Philippine business sector: A Discussion on Existing Investments and Prospects for Expansion with the Aboitiz Group

In line with the aim to attract more investments and to support existing Filipino investors in Sri Lanka, Ambassador Shobini Gunasekera met with high-ranking executives of the Aboitiz Group on 26 February 2021 at the Embassy.

The Aboitiz Group is one of the biggest business conglomerates in the Philippines with interests in energy production, banking, agriculture, construction, real estate, among others, in the ASEAN region. In 2019, the conglomerate acquired Gold Coin Sri Lanka, a thriving agribusiness venture focusing on the production of animal feeds for the Sri Lankan market.

The discussions focused on the operations of the Aboitiz Group’s ventures in Sri Lanka through Pilmico and Gold Coin. The group relayed their gratitude to the Embassy for its continuous assistance and guidance as it expand its operations in the country.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Gunasekera assured the company of the Embassy’s continuous support. She also encouraged the companies to study opportunities for further investments in the agriculture sector as a potential step in exploring other markets in the region with Sri Lanka as a manufacturing base. In addition, she discussed the incentives and assistance for investors under the Government of Sri Lanka’s national policy blueprint, Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour.

The Aboitiz Group was represented by Mr. Tristan Aboitiz, CEO of Pilmico Foods, Mr. Christopher Camba, First Vice President of Aboitiz Equity Ventures (AEV), Mr. DJ Sta. Ana, AEV Chief External Affairs Officer, as well as Gold Coin representatives from Sri Lanka and Singapore who joined the meeting via Zoom.
