Pursuing prospects for FDIs in the food processing and fisheries industry of Sri Lanka: Exploratory meeting with Century Pacific Food Inc.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Manila, as one of its initiatives to attract quality foreign direct investments from top Philippine business conglomerates, virtually met with Century Pacific Food Inc. (CNPF) to promote investment opportunities in the food processing and fisheries industry of Sri Lanka.

CNPF, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Century Pacific Group, Inc., is one of the Philippines’ largest food companies and is primarily engaged in the production of canned, frozen, and processed fish, meat, coconut, and dairy products. The company’s brands have established its presence in key markets through multinational retailers in North America, Middle East, China, Europe, Australia, and the Asia Pacific.

During the interactive discussion, Ambassador Shobini Gunasekera highlighted Sri Lanka’s thriving trade and investment landscape for key priority industries owing to its strategic location, capable workforce, fast developing infrastructure, quality of life, attractive incentives, and the unstinting support and facilitation of the government.

She elaborated on the vast opportunities for foreign investors in the country’s food manufacturing, processing, and canning industry for the domestic and export market demand. In addition, she also discussed the existing prospects in the fisheries sector as a complementary venture to in-country fish processing and canning investment projects.

On the other hand, Mr. Christopher Po, President and CEO of CNPF, expressed his interest to work with the Embassy in exploring the aforementioned investments prospects especially as his company continues to expand its market worldwide.

Both parties agreed to move forward from the initial interaction through further exploratory meetings with relevant stakeholders such as the Board of Investments, retail industry players, among others.

Also present during the event were Mrs. Thanuja Dissanayake, Minister and Head of Chancery, Ms. Dappy Tecson of CNPF Investor Relations Team, and Mr. William Chen, CFO of Real Steel Corporation.
