Promoting Sri Lanka as the Filipino traveler’s next destination: Tourism Promotion at the Rizal Travel Agencies Associations’s 2nd General Membership Meeting
Upon the invitation of the Rizal Travel Agencies Association (RTAA), the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Manila participated at its second general membership meeting held on June 8, 2022 at the Bayview Park Hotel, Manila to showcase Sri Lanka as a tourism destination to its member-travel agencies.
Speaking as one of the guest speakers, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Philippines Shobini Gunasekera discussed the tourism industry’s valuable contribution to the economic development of countries like Sri Lanka and the Philippines especially as it move towards recovery. Showcasing Sri Lanka best tourism features, she briefed the travel agents on the country’s tourism features particularly on wildlife, nature, culture and heritage, as well as wellness tourism which will cater to the interests of Filipino travelers.
Further, she encouraged the RTAA and its members to work with the Embassy in initiatives such familiarization tours, virtual introductions, etc. which aims to build linkages, collaborations, and mutually-beneficial partnerships with their Sri Lankan counterparts to expand bilateral tourism.
The Embassy also participated with a “Sri Lanka Tourism Corner” where tourism promotional brochures and complimentary Ceylon tea were distributed to the attendees.
RTAA is an emerging travel agencies association in Rizal, a province north of Metro Manila, the country’s capital. It has a strength of around 70 members comprised of stakeholders from the tourism, trade, hospitality, and other related industries.
