Prof. Nihal Amerasinghe appointed as Distinguished Fellow in Development Management


Professor NihalAmerasinghe, PhD, is the first Distinguished Fellow in Development Management at the Asian Institute of Management. The appointment was approved last July 1, and will be retained for three years. As a Distinguished Fellow, he will be coaching and mentoring students on business and soft skills, and will be counseling them on valuable industry soft skills and career paths on top of his faculty duties.

Currently, Professor Amerasinghe is the program director for ZSDM’s Project Planning and Development Management (PPDM) and Project and Procurement Management Course (PPMC). He teaches PPDM and Economics for Development Managers for the Master in Development Management program. From 2002 to 2011, he was the lead faculty in Project Management, Development Economics, and International Financial Institutions.

He joined AIM in 2002 after an illustrious career at the Asian Development Bank that spanned more than two decades. Prior to his professorship at AIM, he was the ADB’s Director-General for Agriculture and the Social Sectors Department. In the past decade, he has also been involved in research work in Agriculture and Rural Development, Project Management, and International Finance.

Professor Amerasinghe authored two of AIM’s major publications. His first book with AIM, International Financial Institutions and Development in Asia, was published in 2011. This was followed by Design, Appraisal, and Management of Sustainable Development Projects in 2015.
