Friendship through Cultural Diplomacy: An Afternoon of Culture, Fashion, and Noble Advocacies with the Distinguished Ladies of the Johann Strauss Society of the Philippines

At the invitation of the Johann Strauss Society of the Philippines (JSSP), Ambassador Shobini Gunasekera spoke at their virtual fellowship meeting held on 11 December 2020.

In her speech, Ambassador Gunasekera expressed her admiration for the noble advocacies of the organization as well as its note-worthy initiatives to promote culture and arts through it highly-anticipated charity events.

In order to showcase Sri Lanka’s rich and vibrant cultural heritage through its fashion and jewelry industry, Ambassador Gunasekera introduced two celebrated Sri Lankan women entrepreneurs, Mrs. Thiyasha De Fonseka of Tiesh Jewelries and Ms. Darshi Keerthisena of Buddhi Batiks, two empowered women-entrepreneurs who are making strides in their respective industries.

Ambassador Gunasekera invited the ladies to explore collaborative engagements with the Embassy in promoting cultural diplomacy such as a fashion show and a jewelry exhibition next year. The JSSP member unanimously expressed their interest to engage with Sri Lanka in any future endeavors.

The JSSP, comprised of distinguished ladies from the public and private sector, is a non-stock and non-profit organization founded to promote the appreciation and development of the arts, dance and music. The organization supports noble advocacies and charitable projects for the terminally-ill, abandoned and abused children, among others, through its fund-raising events such as opera balls, gala concerts, and cocktail musicals.
