Fostering cooperation in shared advocacies and aspirations: Sister Club Agreement and Collaboration on IT Education Scholarships Project between the Rotary Club of Colombo-Reconnections and the Rotary Club of Makati-Circle of Friends
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Manila facilitated the virtual signing of a sister club agreement between the Rotary Club of Colombo-Reconnections (RCCR) and the Rotary Club of Makati Circle of Friends (RCM-CoF) on 29 June 2022. An MoU on a collaborative project between the two Rotary Clubs and the Center for International Education Global Colleges Inc. (CIE), was also signed during the ceremony which formally established the framework of an IT education scholarships program for including online certificate courses, diplomas, and graduate degrees for 500 Sri Lankan beneficiaries.
In her remarks, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Philippines Shobini Gunasekera relayed her warmest felicitations to both Rotary Clubs for the significant milestone in their mutual goal of expanding their linkages through collaborative programs based on mutual advocacies. Speaking about the partnership, she highlighted the benefits that it will contribute in capacitating the youth and professionals of the country in line with the current trends and demands of the ICT-BPM industry.
She expressed her gratitude to Prof. Nelia Cruz Sarcol, Charter President of RCM-CoF and the President/CEO of CIE, for the kind gesture of extending the IT education scholarships program to Sri Lanka. She also thanked the officers of the RRCR namely: Mr. Rakitha Jayatunge, RCCR President, Mr. Rohantha Athukorala, Past President and Public Image Chair, as well as the support of Ms. Pubudu De Zoysa, District Governor of the Rotary International District 3220 – Sri Lanka & Maldives, for their contributions in pursuing the said initiative.
Both Rotary Clubs committed to further strengthen the collaboration through exchange visits and other engagements in the near future.
