Fostering collaboration in bilateral investments promotion: Courtesy call on the Director General of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority

With the view of strengthening ties with the Philippines in promoting mutually-beneficial investments, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Philippine Shobini Gunasekera, together with Embassy officials, paid a courtesy call on the Director General of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) BGen Charito B. Plaza, MNSA, PhD.

During the meeting, Ambassador Gunasekera and Director General Plaza discussed potential collaborative engagements in promoting bilateral investments in sector of mutual interests between both countries particularly in the sectors of IT-BPM, tourism, apparels, manufacturing, among others.

Ambassador Gunasekera highlighted the growing interest of reputed Sri Lankan companies especially from the IT-BPM industry to expand in the Philippines. She raised the possibility of establishing a platform to promote bilateral trade and investments with PEZA-registered companies and their Sri Lankan counterparts.

On the other hand, Director General Plaza elaborated on the support and assistance that the PEZA provides for interested investors. On behalf of the agency, she committed to support the Embassy in facilitating any interests from Sri Lanka as well as to inform Filipino investors on investment prospects in the country.

Both parties agreed to work on a series of activities such as information sessions, an investment promotion summit, and other facilitative interventions for potential investors from Sri Lanka and the Philippines.

PEZA is the Philippine government agency mandated to promote the establishment of economic zones in the Philippines for foreign investments. It is also tasked to extend assistance, register, grant incentives to and facilitate the business operations of investors in export-oriented manufacturing and service facilities inside selected areas throughout the country proclaimed by the government as PEZA Special Economic Zones.
