Expanding Bilateral Trade and Investment Relations with the Davao City Business Community

Working on its pursuit to seek more opportunities in expanding Sri Lanka’s economic ties with the Philippines, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Manila virtually met with the officers of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCI), the esteemed chamber representing the dynamic business community of the City of Davao.

Davao is the most populous city in Mindanao and the third largest in the Philippines. It is recognized as a bustling economic hub ranking among the top three most important economic centers in the country.

In the discussions, Ambassador Shobini Gunasekera highlighted the importance of linking the business sectors of both countries through mutually-beneficial collaboration in key areas of interests such as IT-BPM, agro processing, manufacturing, food processing, among others.

Meanwhile, Dr. Maria Lourdes Monteverde, the DCCCI President and Honorary Consul of Mexico in Davao, expressed the chamber’s interest to work together with the Embassy as it explores opportunities to expand its international business network. She and her distinguished officials mentioned the sectors of tourism, education, and the shipping industry as potential new areas that could be explored.

A series of activities such as a trade promotion forum, business-to-business meetings, and industry association interactions will be organized under this collaboration. A sister city arrangement for Davao City and a framework agreement between the DCCCI and their counterpart organization in Sri Lanka were also suggested during the interaction.
