“Enhancing TVET collaborations with the Philippines”

Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the Philippines Shobini Gunasekera received a courtesy call from the Deputy Director General Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Mr. Aniceto Bertiz III on 28th September 2020 at the Chancery of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Manila.

Both sides discussed the possibilities of enhancing collaborative programs on technical and vocational education and training (TVET) particularly in the areas of organic farming, ICT, infrastructure, healthcare and caregiving, tourism, aviation and women empowerment, to boost the level of cooperation between Sri Lanka and Philippines.

TESDA formulates manpower and skills plans, sets appropriate skills standards and tests, coordinates and monitors manpower policies and programs, and provides policy directions and guidelines for resource allocation for the TVET institutions in both the private and public sectors.

Currently, the Philippines is the inaugural Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council for 2020-2022, officially launched on 16 th September 2020.

Associated with the discussions were Mrs. Thanuja Dissanayake, Minister of the Embassy and Mr. Rolando M. Canda, Jr., Program Manager of TESDA.
