Encouraging collaborations and partnerships in tourism promotion: Presentation of NKAR Travels and Tours to the National Association of Independent Travel Agencies

Upon the successful participation of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Manila together with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau as joint event partners at the recently-held hybrid edition of the National Association of Independent Travel Agencies (NAITAS) Travel Show on 4 December 2021, the Embassy, upon the request of the Sri Lankan participants, assisted in the holding of an exclusive virtual presentation with NAITAS members, first with NKAR Travels and Tours, on 21 December 2021. Twenty-five (25) Filipino travel agents participated at the one-hour session.

NKAR Travels and Tours Manager Mr. Malinda Samarasekera delivered a comprehensive presentation on the current developments in the tourism sector of Sri Lanka, the prevailing entry protocols for tourists, and their company’s travel packages. He elaborated on their company’s interest to work with Filipino travel agents in expanding their market from the Philippines through mutually-beneficial business engagements.

The presentation was followed by an interactive question and answer portion where the Filipino travel agents inquired on the tourism attractions, packages, pricing, and other concerns.

Meanwhile, Ms. Florence Rivera, the NAITAS President, committed to support NKAR’s initiatives in linking with Filipino travel agents and travelers in promoting Sri Lanka as a tourism destination.

The Embassy is currently working with the NAITAS in a proposed familiarization tour and the holding of their general membership and business meeting in Sri Lanka tentatively in the first quarter of 2022.

Prior to the pandemic, the Philippines ranked among its ASEAN neighbors with the highest tourism arrivals in Sri Lanka even in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday incident.
