Embracing a new beginning with optimism, fresh perspectives, and determination: Celebration of ceremonial commencement of work at the Embassy

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Manila, in a solemn ceremony with the attendance of the clergy representing the diverse faiths in the country, celebrated the commencement of work for the year 2022.

After the offering of prayers to the Lord Buddha, the ceremony started with the singing of the national anthem, lighting of the traditional oil lamp, observance of two-minute silence, offering of prayers and blessings by the clergy, and the reading of the oath/affirmation of the public service by the members of the Embassy.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Philippines Shobini Gunaskera, in her inspirational message, discussed the value of upholding optimism and determination especially as the world gears towards a better future in the new normal while still facing the various challenges of the pandemic.

She highlighted the various initiatives that the Embassy has pursued in the past year in strengthening bilateral partnership between Sri Lanka and the Philippines in the economic, political, and cultural spheres. She expressed her optimism that the New Year will provide opportunities for such programs and proposals to successfully materialize.

She encouraged the members of the Embassy’s staff to persevere and continue to excel in their official responsibilities as well as their personal aspirations. She also took the opportunity to extend her appreciation to them as well for the exemplary efforts they have given in the Embassy’s initiatives on the past year.

The ceremony concluded with a sumptuous lunch of Sri Lankan delicacies such as kiribath, sweetmeats, and Ceylon tea.
