Celebration of Ceremonial Commencement of Work at the Embassy

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Manila celebrated the ceremonial commencement of work for the year 2021. In accordance to the prescribed agenda, the ceremony started with the signing of the national anthem, lighting of the traditional oil lamp, observance of two-minute silence, and the reading of the oath/affirmation of the public service by the members of the Embassy.

Dr. Gawri Lokugalapaththige of the World Health Organization-Philippines (WHO) was invited as the ceremony’s guest speaker. Her speech focused on the challenges brought by the health crisis as well as the notable advancements in the global fight against the pandemic particularly on the development and prospective distribution of vaccines. She also applauded the initiatives of the Philippine government in addressing the situation in the country. While celebrating the over-all progress in combatting the pandemic, she reiterated the necessity of practicing the basic interventions and adhering to the necessary measures in order to ensure a safe, healthy, and productive home/work environment.

The Ambassador, in her message, thanked the staff of the Embassy for overcoming as a team a difficult year affected by the pandemic and was optimistic that the New Year dawned would pave the way for fresh opportunities to strengthen bilateral relations with the Philippines and contribute to the developmental goals of Sri Lanka.

The occasion provided for an opportunity for everyone to express their gratitude and best wishes to each other as well as to share their optimistic outlook for the new year. The members of the Embassy also committed to embody the values of camaraderie, friendship, and unity to sustain and further develop the initiatives undertaken by the Embassy.

The celebration was concluded with a sumptuous lunch of Sri Lankan and Filipino delicacies.
