“Buddha Rashmi” Vesak Celebrations in Manila

A large number of Buddhist devotees including Venerable Maha Sanga from the Buddhist Temples in the Philippines, Multi-religious Leaders, Sri Lankan Community, students who are following Buddhism in the Philippines and other well-wishers together with the staff of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Manila celebrated the Day of Vesak on 29 April 2018 at the Sri Lanka Residence.

Mayor of the City of Taguig to promote economic, cultural and tourism relationship with Sri Lanka

Mrs. Aruni Ranaraja, Sri Lanka Ambassador to the Philippines paid a call on Hon. Maria Laarni Lopez Cayetano, Mayor of Taguig City on 19th April 2018.

Discussions were focused on “ease of doing business” through city councils and city planning. Also both sides discussed the possibility of promoting tourism and culture through twin city concept between Taguig and Colombo Municipal Councils.

Sri Lanka participated at the Baguio Creative City Project under UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN)

The formation of the UCCN revolves around the basic premise of the United Nations about cities as catalysts of the creative economy where art and cultural practices generate livelihoods, an ideas extended and solidified through Sustainable Development Goal 11: Making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. UCCN aims to be a collaborative platform where cities with creative industries can share best practices, built in each other’s capacities and find ways for mutual cooperation in the presence of developmental challenges.
