Sri Lanka and Brunei Darussalam to further elevate relations

Hon. Vasantha Senanayake, State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka met H.E. Pehin Dato Lim Jock Seng, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, today (06 August 2017) on the sidelines of the grand celebration of the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN in Manila. The two Ministers discussed ways and means to further invigorate the relations between the two countries including intensifying cooperation in the spenders of economic, trade and tourism, education and student exchange at graduate and post graduate levels and to enhance employment opportunities for Sri Lankans as well as intensifying interactions between the private sectors to expand business opportunities. Sri Lanka’s desire to intensify cooperation with ASEAN including as a future Sectoral Dialogue Partner was also conveyed.

The Philippines Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs (Foreign Minister) Hon.  Alan Peter S. Cayetano, said in Manila on Saturday (05 August 2017) that the relations with Sri Lanka is ‘stronger than ever before’  and reiterated the Philippines intention to continue working closely with Sri Lanka to further elevate the engagement in all spheres. Meeting Hon. Vasantha Senanayake, State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka during the latter’s visit to the Philippines for the grand celebration of the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN, Secretary Cayetano, said the Philippines is also in the process of settling out plans to strengthen the institutional mechanism further to facilitate deeper diplomatic engagement. State Minister Vasantha Senanayake also leads Sri Lanka’s delegation to the ASEAN Regional Forum being held on 06 August in Manila and for the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of ASEAN.

Sri Lanka and Indonesia discuss ways and means to achieve concrete results in light of the recent elevation of the bilateral engagement

H.E. Retno L.P. Marsudi Indonesia’s Foreign Minister and Sri Lanka’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Vasantha Senanayake decided on Saturday(5 August)  in Manila for the two countries to further intensify efforts in political, economic, developmental, cultural, security related cooperation as well as cooperation in regional and international fora. The two ministers also considered ways and means to achieve concrete results in light of the recent elevation of the bilateral engagement through highest political level interactions including the recently concluded State Visit of H.E. President Maithripala Sirisena.

Sri Lanka – Laos PDR discuss ways and means to further invigorate the bilateral relations

Hon. Vasantha Senanayake, State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka met H.E. Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR today (05 August 2017) on the sidelines of the grand celebration of ASEAN’s 50th Anniversary ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).

Discussing matters of mutual interest, the two ministers considered ways and means of further invigorating the relations including cultural cooperation, cooperation between legislatures, immigration matters, Defence training etc.

Sri Lanka and Myanmar to further elevate good cooperation in identified sectors

Myanmar and Sri Lanka has agreed to take steps to further elevate the good cooperation between the two countries in the areas of tourism, education and technical training as well as Defence and maritime cooperation. These emerged during talks Hon. Vasantha Senanayake, State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka had with H.E. U Kyaw Tin, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Myanmar, on 04 August 2017 on the sidelines of grand celebration in Manila of the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN in Manila.

Sri Lanka’s Foreign Affairs State Minister Hon. Vasantha Senanayake, currently in the Philippines to attend the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), met with H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Senior Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, on 04 August 2017 in Manila. During which meeting initiatives relating to economic and trade, tourism, education cooperation and the long standing cultural cooperation and Buddhist linkages were discussed

Sri Lanka – Turkey renewed bilateral cooperation on the sidelines of the Grand Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN in Manila, the Philippines.

Turkey and Sri Lanka agreed on Saturday (04 August) to strengthen bilateral relations including intensifying cooperation in the sectors of economic, trade, tourism, education and enduring people to people contacts.

During discussions Hon. Vasantha Senanayake, State Minister for Foreign Affairs had with the Philippines Secretary (Minister) of the Department of Labor and Employment, Hon. Silvestre H. Bello III, Sri Lanka and the Philippines have  agreed in principle to enter into a framework of understanding to strengthen cooperation in the promotion and protection of welfare and rights of the expatriate workers, including facilitating enhancement of productivity and working conditions, occupational safety and health,  training and certification of migrant workers of both countries.

Sri Lanka and the Philippines to Intensify Defence Cooperation

Sri Lanka and the Philippines agreed on Thursday (3 August) to strengthen defence cooperation through training, education and sharing experience in the area of defense and maritime security. This follows talks State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, Hon. Vasantha Senanayake, had with Undersecretary (Deputy Minister) of  National Defense of Philippines, Hon. Cardozo M. Luna.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Manila celebrated the International Day of Vesak on the Full Moon Poya Day on 10th May at the Sri Lanka Residence and subsequently at the Wisdom Park on 13th May.
