Sri Lanka- Philippines sharing knowledge in Defence Cooperation

A sixteen (16) member delegation headed by Commandant Major General Jeewaka Ruwan Kulatunga from the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) of Sri Lanka visited the Philippines from to 10th to 21st August 2017.

Sri Lanka – Canada bilateral relations reinvigorated

Hon. Vasantha Senanayake, State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka,had a bilateral meeting with H.E. Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada on Monday (07 August 2017) on the sidelines of the 24th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in Manila and exchanged views on measures to strengthen relations and enhance cooperation between the two countries.

Malaysia and Sri Lanka reiterated keen desire to build on the outcomes of the recent highest level engagements and to achieve concrete progress on the decisions taken. During the meeting Hon. Vasantha Senanayake, State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka, had with Malaysian Foreign Minister, H.E. Dato’ Sri Anifah Haji Aman, on Monday  (07 August 2017).

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to intensify bilateral and regional cooperation

During discussions Hon. Vasantha Senanayake, State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka, had with H.E. Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh on 07 August 2017, the two countries agreed to progress on the decisions taken during the recent State Visit to Bangladesh of H.E. the President Maithripala Sirisena. Meeting on the sidelines of the grand celebration of the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN and ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in Manila on Tuesday, the Ministers discussed ways and means to intensify the engagement including collaboration at regional fora, mechanisms to further liberalize bilateral trade, establish joint venture partnerships in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, enhance cooperation in education, deep sea fisheries, agriculture processing and Defence matters and deepen people to people contacts.

Hon. Vasantha Senanayake, State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka, met with the Secretary General of ASEAN, H.E. Le Luong Minh,  in Manila today (06 August 2017).

The State Minister conveyed Sri Lanka’s keen desire for closer engagement with ASEAN including the impending application as a Sectoral Dialogue Partner (ASEAN SDP). The meeting took place on the sidelines of the grand celebration of the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN and ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) at which the State Minister is representing Sri Lanka.

Hon. Vasantha Senanayake, State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka met H.E. General Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd.), Minister of State for External Affairs, India, today (06 August 2017) on the sidelines of the 50th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in Manila. The two Ministers discussed the recent elevation of the longstanding relations between the two countries and excellent cooperation and understanding the two countries presently enjoy. They particularly noted the recent exchange of highest political level visits, the constant elevation of the bilateral engagement including in economic, cultural, education, development and humanitarian assistance and several other spheres etc.

Hon. Vasantha Senanayake, State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka met H.E. Pehin Dato Lim Jock Seng, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, today (06 August 2017) on the sidelines of the grand celebration of the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN in Manila. The two Ministers discussed ways and means to further invigorate the relations between the two countries including intensifying cooperation in the spenders of economic, trade and tourism, education and student exchange at graduate and post graduate levels and to enhance employment opportunities for Sri Lankans as well as intensifying interactions between the private sectors to expand business opportunities. Sri Lanka’s desire to intensify cooperation with ASEAN including as a future Sectoral Dialogue Partner was also conveyed.

The Philippines Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs (Foreign Minister) Hon.  Alan Peter S. Cayetano, said in Manila on Saturday (05 August 2017) that the relations with Sri Lanka is ‘stronger than ever before’  and reiterated the Philippines intention to continue working closely with Sri Lanka to further elevate the engagement in all spheres. Meeting Hon. Vasantha Senanayake, State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka during the latter’s visit to the Philippines for the grand celebration of the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN, Secretary Cayetano, said the Philippines is also in the process of settling out plans to strengthen the institutional mechanism further to facilitate deeper diplomatic engagement. State Minister Vasantha Senanayake also leads Sri Lanka’s delegation to the ASEAN Regional Forum being held on 06 August in Manila and for the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of ASEAN.

Sri Lanka and Indonesia discuss ways and means to achieve concrete results in light of the recent elevation of the bilateral engagement

H.E. Retno L.P. Marsudi Indonesia’s Foreign Minister and Sri Lanka’s State Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Vasantha Senanayake decided on Saturday(5 August)  in Manila for the two countries to further intensify efforts in political, economic, developmental, cultural, security related cooperation as well as cooperation in regional and international fora. The two ministers also considered ways and means to achieve concrete results in light of the recent elevation of the bilateral engagement through highest political level interactions including the recently concluded State Visit of H.E. President Maithripala Sirisena.
